Our Story

We are the Kerang & District Family History Group Inc.

The Kerang & District Family History Group Inc. is a not-for-profit group to assist members in their family history research by providing a meeting place for genealogists and family historians to pursue their common interest.

We meet every 4th Thursday of the month from February to November at the Sir John Gorton Library, cnr Murray Valley Highway & Shadforth Street, Kerang. Visitors and new members are most welcome.

We have been helping people research and build their family trees for over 30 years and over that time, we have promoted and encouraged the pursuit of family history. Our aim is to:

  • research our own families and assist beginners

  • provide family history research facilities, assistance and education to residents of Kerang and visitors

  • To encourage genealogical research and interest in the local area.

  • To produce, gather and preserve indexes and information relevant to the study of family history, particularly for the Kerang region so that it is preserved for future generations.

  • To make those indexes and other books, papers, manuscripts and periodical journals available to researchers through the Gannawarra Library Service,

  • To publish a bi-yearly newsletter (Ibis Heritage) so giving members the opportunity to contribute articles based on their own research and to distribute information pertaining to family history.

We have an extensive range of resources from the Kerang area, Victoria, Australia and Overseas, including FREE access to the internet and Ancestry.com to help members with their family research.  These resources are continuously being added to.

Discover your ancestors among the myriad of resources held by the society. Access in person during library hours by giving a small donation, or alternatively, we are happy to assist with your research for a modest fee. Further details can be found on the Research page at  http://home.vicnet.net.au/~kerangfh/index.html
